My day started with the alarm going off at 6:15 am. I hit the alarms snooze until 6:35 because I am still tired from staying up last night watching my favorite show, Army Wives, which doesn't get over until 11:00pm. After getting ready, I wake Cory up, walk down the hall and get Carson up, dressed, and teeth brushed, get his bag ready for Mrs. Julie's house, turn on The Wiggles, and say my goodbyes. The entire time I am getting in my car in the garage, I can hear Carson crying Mama, Mama. Times like this I really hate leaving him. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my job but days like this, it becomes hard. I knew that today, I had a full day meeting, which I was informed of last week that I was going to be the Project Manager on, and then after that I had to go to dinner with the team that was going to be involved. So by this time, something like 7:25am, I am not the best mood. I try my best to snap out of it before I get to work because ready or not, Monday is here.
I get into work at about 7:40 to discover that the agenda that I had prepared Friday for today's meeting has changed. I take care of that, prepare some additional documents, make sure I have my login information for a demo, test it...you guessed it, NO it didn't work, scramble to find someone who can reset my login information, and then try to breath. As I come around the corner, I see that someone has been in my cube and left a note on my board. "SEE ME WHEN YOU GET BACK! " Lord, what now - it's my manager. It is 20 minutes before our client arrives, I really hope that she isn't going to spring something else that needs to be done for the meeting. So I go over to see her, she picks up a binder and says can we go in here and starts walking in the direction of a private room with a door. Most people at this point would probably start to panic. Me on the other hand, thought to myself, what have I done or not done. Little did I know, my manager handed me a sticky note with my new title, Senior Recruiting Analyst. I had received a promotion. OK, so the day wasn't looking so shabby after all, especially since I was not aware of this opportunity.
So we had the meeting that lasted from 9 - 3:30...overall, it went well - no major hiccups. Now I just had dinner to do and then I could go home, take a hot shower, and go to bed. Well, I truly was thinking that I would be home at around 8 at the latest. That is also what I told my patient husband. Not the case, since I rode with my boss, it was 9:00 before we left dinner and then my boss dropped me back off at work to get my car. I called Cory at 9:15 and told him I was on my way home. Me and my wishful thoughts, asked if Carson was still awake....of course not. I knew he probably wouldn't be as he goes to sleep around 8. I have to say that I was bummed. I hadn't seen him since this morning. I am used to my C-dub time in the afternoon (I pick him up most days and we have lunch together before Nana sits with him) and in the evening. Yes, so with my tiredness, I got a little grouchy....thinking I wish I didn't have to do all this with work so that I can spend time with my boys....but I really love my job and my family....can I just have the best of both worlds...Work when I want to and be home when I want to? By this time, I was pulling in the driveway and got over myself real quick. Thank God for Cory - I walk in, he gives me a hug, tells me congrats and to go get in the shower. I first wanted to stop by and kiss my bubby. Just as I lean over the crib to give him a kiss, he opens his eyes, I get a smile, then a cry, and then he reaches for me. Most nights, I would just pat his hiney and walk out and he would go back to sleep. Even though I was EXHAUSTED, I got him, we snuggled for a couple of minutes, and he went back to sleep. It was GREAT!!! I just got out of the most amazing 30 minute steaming, hot shower and decided that I was going to write about my day....After all, I will probably not have another day like this for a long time. Today, I got the best of both worlds
